Wachi is a five-member band established in Guangdong Province, China. The name ‘Wachi’ originates from a puddle in the courtyard where the band members used to play, where tadpoles soon grew into frogs. The industrial economy of southern Chinese cities, the long subtropical rainy season, and summers imbue their music with a sense of impulsiveness and vigor, while the confusion and melancholy that arise in the process of exploring themselves and society add a touch of moist blue to Wachi’s music. After releasing several self-produced demos in 2020, Wachi quickly gained attention in China’s independent music scene. Wachi’s live performances are rich in emotional tension. Influenced by avant-garde rock, college rock, and folk music, Wachi’s music features dynamic structures and melodies that are diverse, recognizable, and have a distinct tonality. The lyrics of Wachi are filled with simple, lifelike imagery, constructing various and interesting metaphors. In their album ‘Picnic’ released in the summer of 2023, there are undulating rhythms of crisp Spanish, the rhythm of the dongbula, the northwestern Xintianyou, and the singing style of the Miao people. The five band members sense and respond to each other in improvisation, with words, melodies, and rhythms growing together in the rehearsal room. Vocal melodies move freely, two guitars sometimes converse with each other, sometimes walk side by side, and drums and bass solidly seek the weight of melodic parts, forming a vibrant rhythm. Wachi is composed of Jin Yiyi (lead vocalist), Disheng and Ahao (guitarists), Sanfeng (bassist), and Wu Chuhao (drummer). The full text is open on 12/01, Sunday, and the performance starts at 19:00. The specific duration of the performance is subject to the actual event.
