Located to the west of the Ci Cheng County Office, the City God Temple was originally constructed at the beginning of the Tang Dynasty when the county was established. It was reconstructed in the fourth year of the Xian Chun era of the Song Dynasty (1268 AD) and has been renovated through various dynasties. In the ninth year of the Tongzhi era of the Qing Dynasty (1870 AD), a local named Feng Benhuai raised funds for its construction, which was later destroyed. The current reconstructed City God Temple follows the architectural standards of the Qing Dynasty, featuring a grand temple complex with a complete layout. The Ci Cheng City God Temple, facing north to south, is a typical example of Chinese Taoist temple architecture. The temple’s halls and stages are layered, with wing rooms and side halls connected in depth, forming a unified structure. It not only has the characteristic configuration of a temple hall but also possesses the architectural style of an official building, with its theological interest and the function of ‘front court and back bedroom’ being very evident. The Ci Cheng City God Temple is one of the more complete City God Temples restored in China at present. Open from 1/1 to 12/31 from 08:00 to 16:40 every day.
