Behind the Xu Fu Hall, a granite stone-paved stepped path gracefully ascends the lush and verdant hillside. It is like a white silk ribbon floating down from the sky and is known as the Cloud Ladder. The Cloud Ladder is exactly on the connecting line between Langya Terrace and Zhenggao Mountain. According to historical records, this was originally one of the three imperial roads for Emperor Qin Shihuang to ascend Langya Terrace. The Cloud Ladder was built in 1994 on the original site of the imperial road. It is 152 meters high, 2.8 meters wide, and has a total of 336 steps with four platforms. Tourists climbing the Cloud Ladder can look at Zhenggao Mountain on the left and Langya Terrace on the right. Thinking of the legend that when the terrace was added one more layer, the mountain became one section higher, they will suddenly be filled with emotions. Looking at the lush vegetation on the slopes on both sides: pine trees, wingceltis trees, silk trees, locust trees, catalpa trees, baby fist plants, wild yams, small-leaved kudzu vines and other trees, shrubs and vines. They all compete for a foothold with the special abilities bestowed on them by nature, competing for space and sunlight. They are truly clever and resourceful! Even the rare hackberry trees in the north are not shy or reserved and vigorously occupy a place. Although the competition among plants is unyielding, they are staggered in height, connected and climbing, each having its own place and advantages, and they are so harmonious! They coexist and prosper together, showing the strength of their vitality in the form of communities between heaven and earth, which is truly inspiring. Sometimes, mist and drifting clouds will emerge from the lush plant communities. At this moment, people on the Cloud Ladder will have an even greater sense of transcendence.
