Is the truth a form of liberation? A distress call, a race against time, and a circular stage where the audience joins in the search for the real culprit. A call for help rings out in the police station’s reporting room, triggering a series of intriguing cases within cases. The operator, Ella, goes to great lengths to save the kidnapped caller, Shelly, even violating procedures to find clues. In the end, it is discovered that behind the victim’s struggle and panic, there lies an unexpected secret. Who is the real victim? ‘Criminal’ is adapted from the Danish Golden Statue Award-winning film ‘Night Stalker,’ sweeping five major awards including ‘Best Drama’ and ‘Best Director’ at the 2023 Malaysian Play Torch Awards. The male lead, Chen Liyang, and the female lead, Ye Yu, are both well-known young film, television, and stage actors. The stage design is innovative and clever, immersing the audience in the high-pressure atmosphere of the police station’s reporting room, following the male protagonist as he gradually unravels the mystery and decodes the truth. * ‘Criminal’ premiered in 2022 at the Kuala Lumpur Performing Arts Center, produced by Moka Space and the People’s Theater of the Artist’s Hall. The full performance is open from November 29th to December 1st, Tuesday to Sunday. The performance times and duration are subject to the actual schedule at the venue.
