The Cross-Strait (Pingtan) Sand Sculpture Cultural Festival is a distinctive and far-reaching brand tourism project that Pingtan Comprehensive Experimental Zone has been striving to create, having successfully held six editions previously. In 2014, the festival was themed ‘Colorful Pingtan, Connected by Emotion Across the Straits’, featuring 27 large-scale sand sculptures that recreated the local customs and culture of old Pingtan.

This year’s sand sculpture park is divided into four themed areas: Sand Sculpture Paradise, Music Square, Seaside Amusement Park, and Drive-In Cinema. Among them, the Sand Sculpture Paradise introduces interactive light and shadow equipment, making the sculptures more vibrant and colorful at night. The main visual sand sculpture is divided into three layers, upper, middle, and lower, using Pingtan stone houses as elements, with nearly a hundred stone houses vividly recreating the architectural style of old Pingtan during the Ming and Qing dynasties.

On the Music Square, international performance teams will present passionate performances, from the passionate samba of Brazil to the grass skirt dance of Thailand, making Pingtan’s summer nights full of passion. ‘Hot Samba Passionate Beach’, ‘Beach Carnival Torch Festival’, ‘Qixi Lovers’ Festival’, ‘Bingbing King of Kings’, ‘Top Ten Model King Concert’, the five major themed activities will ignite Pingtan.
