Da Ji Mountain is one of the five famous Taoist mountains in China and the birthplace of Taoist culture. From the pre-Qin period to the end of the Qing Dynasty, Taoist practitioners have been cultivating in this valley, hence the local name ‘Daoist Valley’. Da Ji Mountain’s Daoist Valley is also the largest valley Taoist venue in the country. The Taoist buildings that have been restored include Taiqing Palace, Haotian Temple, Sanguan Hall, Wanshou Palace, Xiantian Temple, Baiyun Hermitage, Yellow Emperor Temple, Guangyue Hermitage, Erhou Temple, Shengshui Temple, Jiyue Building, and Xi Building, among more than ten places. What is precious about Da Ji Mountain is the 24 historical cliff inscriptions from the valley to the mountain top. The main inscriptions include ‘Poetry of Climbing Da Ji Mountain’ and ‘Zhongming Altar’, which are as famous as Zheng Daozhao’s inscriptions on Yunfeng Mountain and are renowned both domestically and internationally.

Da Ji Mountain has dense forests and steep terrain, with a forest coverage rate of 80%. There are ten peaks over 350 meters, and the overall mountain shape is circular with a gap in the southwest corner, forming a natural gateway. The lush vegetation, excellent air quality, and pleasant scenery have led many historical records to call this place ‘the best scenic spot in the county’.
