The people of Shaoxing often say that the ancient city of Shaoxing surrounded by flowing water is like a large ship. The Dashan Pagoda in the north of the city and the Yingtian Pagoda on the Feilai Mountain in the south of the city are like two poles that hold the Shaoxing city firmly in place. Neither of them can be missing. In another folk legend, the existence of the Dashan Pagoda is also related to guarding the peace of Shaoxing city. It is said that there is a precious pearl as big as a dragon’s eye hidden on the top of the Dashan Pagoda. With it, Shaoxing can be free from the invasion of strong winds and enjoy good weather every year.
