Daidushan is also known as Dadanshan. Legend has it that in the first year of Jingyan in the Southern Song Dynasty (1276), Lin’an, the capital of the Song Dynasty, was lost. The Yuan army pursued. Zhao Gang and his younger brother, the two emperors, were escorted by Zhang Shijie and Lu Xiufu. They fled from the coast of Fuzhou to Jiazi and stationed on this mountain. They intended to advance eastward to join forces with Wen Tianxiang in an attempt to stage a comeback.
Hence, this mountain is named ‘Daidushan’. They received food and supplies from Fan Liangchen, a native scholar who passed the imperial examination in Jiazi. They bestowed upon him the title of Right Minister. Fisherman Zheng Fuweng led the people to support the king and was appointed as the commander. After the two emperors calmed down a bit, their courage greatly increased. Therefore, Daidushan is also called ‘Dadanshan’. There are still remnants of the ‘Feeding Pavilion’ on the mountain. It was built by Zhang Wanjì, a general, and Hu Wenheng, a garrison commander, during the Jiazi period of the Wanli era of the Ming Dynasty. The Feeding Pavilion is also known as the Emperor’s Son Pavilion. It is in the style of a wooden structure, with an area of about 20 square meters. Inside, there are stone statues of Lu Xiufu and Fan Liangchen presenting food to the Song emperor, and the words ‘The emperor’s kindness is like the sea’ are engraved. Under the Feeding Pavilion, there is also a ‘General’s Lodging’, which was built to console the loyal spirit of Zheng Fuweng who dedicated himself to the country. At the top of Daidushan stands the ancient tower of ‘Jiaxiu Tower’. It is said that Jiaxiu Tower was built in the tenth year of Jiaqing in the Qing Dynasty (1850). It is a two-story mud tower, 15 meters high, hexagonal in shape, like a gourd top. The spire points directly to the blue sky. The shape is unique and very spectacular. Beside the tower stands a 15-meter-high pole, which is a typhoon warning signal for Jiazi Port. There is a couplet at the entrance of Jiaxiu Tower, which reads: ‘A great master in writing clouds; A small divine mountain guarding the sea.’ It reflects the majestic and lofty appearance of Jiaxiu Tower and Daidushan, and their imposing presence guarding the seaside. Here, surrounded by mountains and waters, when the tide rises, the sea water rushes into Jiazi Port like thousands of troops and horses. The momentum is extraordinary and the scene is spectacular. Climbing the tower and looking into the distance, the sea and sky merge into one color. The returning sails are reflected in the setting sun. The scenery is charming. This is one of the eight scenic spots in Lufeng, known as ‘Jiazi Swallowing the Tide’. The specific opening hours and business status are subject to the opening situation on that day.Daidushan (Jiaxiu Tower)
