Dajue Mountain, nestled within the Zi Xi County of Fuzhou City, is a World Buddhist Natural Cultural Park that draws its name from the enlightened beings in Buddhism. This sacred site is divided into two distinct areas: the East and West districts. The East District, which is the heart of the park, encompasses 300,000 acres of pristine forest and serves as a haven for those seeking to explore the ancient forests. In contrast, the West District is a vibrant hub for tourists, offering a rich tapestry of religious culture and thrilling canyon rafting experiences.

At the very core of Dajue Mountain stands Dajuezhe Peak, the central landscape that bears a striking resemblance to the fully enlightened Sakyamuni. Here, the layers of clouds and mountains create a backdrop for the natural formation of Guanyin, a sight so serene and natural that it seems a divine gift, harboring the mysteries and wonders of the natural world. A 30-kilometer sightseeing loop has been meticulously crafted, spanning altitudes from 300 meters to 1200 meters, and incorporating a variety of transportation modes such as shuttle sightseeing buses, monorails, cableways, tunnels, and walking trails. This loop not only connects the planned mountaintop temples but also the cliff landscapes that line the path.

Within this loop, one can discover a multitude of natural and architectural marvels: peaks, lakes, pavilions, caves, verandas, and the celestial features known as Tianhu, Tianlu, Tianqiao, Tianyan, Tianquan, Tianmen, Tiantai, Tianjie, and Tianjie. These elements come together to form the enchanting ‘Nine Heavens’ landscape. Beneath the ‘Nine Heavens’ of Dajue Mountain, the ‘Eight Earths’ landscape is composed of eight peaks: Lianhua Peak, Shenguifeng, Bijiafeng, Cuipingfeng, Jiangjunfeng, Wenqufeng, Dieluofeng, and Jingangfeng. Standing amidst the ‘Nine Heavens and Eight Earths, Hundred Views’, visitors are treated to a panoramic vista that is nothing short of a ‘Divine Mountain and Holy Water, the Paradise of the Enlightened’.Climbing Dajue Mountain takes you to the Dajue Rock Temple, nestled within the high mountain caves where the echoes of Buddhist chants and the curling incense smoke create an ethereal atmosphere. This temple, with its 1700-year history, was first established in the first year of the Xianhe era during the Eastern Jin Dynasty (AD 326). It was named after the Great Enlightened Master from Hangzhou’s Lingyin Temple, a renowned monk of the Tang Dynasty who once journeyed here for meditation and worship.

The Dajue Rock Temple is a marvel, a vast granite cave measuring 69 meters in depth, 99 meters in width, and 19 meters in height, a rarity in the world. The temple complex comprises seven distinct parts: the Mahavira Hall, Ksitigarbha Hall, Guanyin Hall, and Jialan Hall, among others, creating a comprehensive temple that harmoniously integrates the three teachings. On the temple’s west side, the ‘Eight Immortals Cave’ and ‘Reading Rock’ stand out as particularly enchanting spots.

Dajue Mountain Ancient Town, situated in a deep mountain canyon, has borne witness to the footsteps of countless devout believers and has inspired the passion of poets and literati across the ages. Today, the town is constructed on a cliff, with architecture as its form and culture as its soul. It integrates one river, three streets, six lanes, and nine mansions, recreating the style of the Song Dynasty. It has become a haven for Zen meditation and vacationing, carrying on the prosperity of a millennium. The town was also the filming location for the TV series ‘The Legend of the Heavenly Fairy’.
