Dakeng Scenic Area, located in Beitun District of Taichung City, is known as the ‘Taichung City Yangming Mountain’. The scenic area is bordered by Zhongxing Ridge in the north, Toushan in the east, Buziking Creek in the south, and Dalixi Creek in the west. It features six natural streams including Dakeng Stream, Zoshuikeng Stream, Qingshuikeng Stream, Hengkeng Stream, Beikeng Stream, and Buziking Stream.
Although the altitude is only 850 meters, the area is part of a water conservation forest and has steep terrain with little human development, preserving its original charm. The mountain-building movements during two ancient ice ages have given rise to the rich natural resources of the Dakeng Scenic Area. The Taichung City Government has developed eight hiking trails here, combined with leisure spots such as Zhongzheng Camping Area and Physical Training Field, making it a popular destination for hiking and fitness in Taichung City.
