Dalongjiu is undoubtedly a renowned scenic spot within the Yandang Mountain scenic area, known together with Lingfeng and Lingyan as the ‘Three Wonders of Yandang’. The waterfall in the scenic area, with a drop of 197 meters, is one of China’s famous waterfalls.
Most visitors tend to only explore the essence of the scenic area, which is from Jiadao Peak to Dalongjiu Waterfall. Here, one can witness the magical scenery of Jiadao Peak changing with every step, along with the spectacular view of Dalongjiu’s waterfall.
On the north side of the scenic area, there are other attractions such as Longjiu Bei and Qianfo Rock. If time permits, it’s worth taking a leisurely stroll. The ‘changing scene with every step’ Jiadao Peak is the highlight of Dalongjiu. Unlike other places where a single rock corresponds to one image, this rock presents different postures depending on the viewing angle.
When viewed from outside the ticket booth, Jiadao Peak resembles an alligator. As you move to the side of the bamboo bridge, it offers an excellent vantage point to observe Jiadao Peak. From a distance, you can see a fissure between two rocks that looks like a pair of pruning shears. As you continue to move forward, the rock’s shape begins to resemble a maiden, a woodpecker, a bear, a ship’s mast… It’s truly magical. The scenic area has set up signs at each viewing point for these shapes. Pay attention to the small signs by the roadside, and you won’t miss any of the shapes. Of course, you can also give it meaning based on your own imagination.
Behind Jiadao Peak lies the Dalongjiu Waterfall. It is not as wide as the Huangguoshu Waterfall, but it wins with its imposing momentum, falling straight down from the cliff in a slender stream, clean and crisp. The best time to visit Dalongjiu to see the waterfall is during the rainy season, especially after rain, when the water volume is abundant, and you can truly feel its magnificent momentum. In the dry season, the waterfall appears to have only a meager amount of water, which can be disheartening. Upon closer inspection, the clear pool and the waterfall like silk and mist transform into a delicate beauty.
