Chaoran Tower is the embodiment of the transcendent and far-reaching landscape within the Daming Lake Scenic Area. The tower was originally constructed during the Yuan Dynasty. As recorded in the ‘Licheng County Annals’, the tower was built by Yuan Dynasty scholar Li Huang behind the water pavilion of Daming Lake. In the Ming Dynasty, poet Yang Yansi composed the poem ‘Chaoran Tower’: ‘Close to the water, pavilions and plants are thriving, the red tower stands a hundred feet high with waves lapping at its base.

Windows frame the rain over the Eastern Sea’s Penglai, while the railings look down on the clouds of Mount Tai to the south. Willow hues and lotus fragrance pass outside the cup, the songs of water chestnuts and fishermen’s chants are heard within the seat. Who has collected the moonlit smoke of the seven bridges? It has dispersed into the bright lake in full measure.’ The current Chaoran Tower covers an area of 5673 square meters, stands at 51.

7 meters tall, and is divided into seven levels, with the top level for sightseeing and the lower levels showcasing Jinan’s spring culture, urban garden culture, and the folk culture of old Jinan through wood carvings, murals, images, and text. Open all year round from 08:00 to 17:00.
