Damo’s Eighteen Scenic Spots, also known as ‘Eighteen Cave Scenery’, is located to the west of Yongquan Temple on Mount Gu. During the reign of Emperor Daoguang in the Qing Dynasty, poet Wei Jie compiled and inscribed eighteen scenes based on the natural scenery and folklore of the area on a rock wall outside Damo Cave: Damo Facing the Wall, South Pole Ascending to Heaven, Mountain Apes Guarding the Gorge, Immortal’s Giant Footprints, Fushou Spring Scenery, Peaches Overflowing in the Valley, Jade Sprouts Forest, Ant Boat Crossing the Tide, Fisherman’s Lantern Illuminating, Lion Playing with a Ball, Golden Toad Emerging from the Cave, Subduing the Tiger Carrying Scriptures, Divine Dragon Listening to the Dharma, Armor Unloading on the Rock, Compassionate Voyage Frame, Eight Immortals’ Rock Cave, and Thousand Buddhas’ Buddhist Palace.


The site is open all year round from 07:00 to 17:30.
