The Danbi Bridge is located in the Temple of Heaven in Beijing, in front of the Hall of Prayer for Good Harvests. It is also called the Haiman Avenue. The Danbi Bridge was built in 1420, the 18th year of Yongle in the Ming Dynasty. It is a corridor connecting the south brick gate of the Altar of Prayer for Grain and its south heavenly gate (the Chenzhen Gate). It is also the axis connecting the Altar of Prayer for Grain and the Circular Mound Altar.
The bridge is 360 meters long and 30 meters wide. It is a huge and long brick and stone platform. It is called a bridge because there are two culverts underneath. There are three stone paths on the Danbi Bridge. The middle one is the divine path, the east one is the imperial path, and the west one is the kingly path. The entire bridge is high in the north and low in the south. Walking from south to north implies climbing step by step and being as if in the heavenly court. On the east side of the Danbi Bridge, there is a square brick platform called the Costume Platform. It has carved stone railings on three sides. It is the place where the emperor washes and changes clothes during sacrifices. In the past, when the emperor held the prayer ceremony for grain at the Hall of Prayer for Good Harvests, he had to set up a circular tent here first and change his ceremonial robes. This is called ‘tent stop’ and is commonly known as the ‘Little Golden Hall’. It is a movable house. Open all year round and open all day.Danbi Bridge
