Darong Mountain National Forest Park boasts a rich array of alpine forest and lake landscapes. It is home to the ‘First Peak of Southeast Guangxi’, Darong Mountain, the elegant Lotus Waterfall, and the deep and serene Jiupu Valley with its nine waterfalls. The variety of scenic types makes it an excellent place to appreciate the beauty of the mountains and forests, as well as to watch sunrises, sunsets, and sea of clouds.
Darong Mountain National Forest Park’s attractions are relatively dispersed. The Longmen Scenic Area is located at the foot of Darong Mountain, featuring an ancient Hui-style residence with a long-standing charm. Jiupu Valley offers a winding journey with a view of canyon waterfalls. The Lotus Scenic Area is the essence of the entire park, featuring the elegant Lotus Waterfall and the calm surface of Xiaolian Pond. From here, one can walk to Darong Mountain, which stands at an altitude of 1275.6 meters and is the first peak in Southern Guangxi. The summit is perennially shrouded in clouds and mist, and the orderly arranged wind turbines have become a beautiful part of the landscape.
In 917 AD, when Emperor Liu Gong of the Southern Han Dynasty proclaimed himself emperor in what is today Guangzhou, he ennobled Darong Mountain as the ‘Western Yue of the South’, a title that has been passed down to this day. It takes about 5 to 6 hours to walk the entire route of Darong Mountain, so visitors are advised to set out early. The park is open all year round from 08:00 to 17:00. [Rafting start times] are 14:00 and 16:30, subject to the announcement on the day by the scenic area.
