Darushan Seaside Tourism Resort is located at the western end of Haiyangsu Peninsula, in the southern part of Rushan City. The distinctive shape of Darushan, resembling a female breast, is the origin of the city’s name and a local tourism symbol. The resort is nestled between the mountains and the sea, boasting beautiful scenery. Visitors can swim in the sea, collect seashells, or take a leisurely walk on the clean sandy beach. Numerous beautiful Buddhist buildings and sculptures are constructed within the scenic area, creating stunning photo opportunities against the backdrop of green hills and blue sea.
Darushan Scenic Area is vast and divided into several sections, including the Motherly Love Cultural Experience Area, Health Culture Experience Area, Religious Culture Tour Area, Seaside Leisure Resort Area, and Amusement Park Area. Electric carts are available to shuttle visitors between the various small attractions. Summer is the best season to visit for vacation, offering a cool escape from the heat and the chance to stay in seaside wooden cabins for a few days, enjoying a leisurely and peaceful life.
The scenic area features nearly two kilometers of sandy beach with shallow waters, calm waves, and good quality sand, and it is less crowded than the beaches in nearby Qingdao and Weihai. Visitors can set up a tent for a nap, play in the sand with their children, build sandcastles, collect seashells, or go for a swim in the sea. Additionally, restaurants such as Moulin Rouge and Donghai Restaurant provide catering services, although prices within the scenic area are relatively high, so it is advisable to bring some water and snacks.
Due to the presence of Darushan, motherly love culture has become the core theme of the resort, with many sculptures and scenes related to virtuous mothers. Visitors can also climb ‘Mother Mary Mountain’ to view the Twenty-Four Filial Piety Reliefs, and visit the ‘Respect Mother Platform’ to see the Nuwa statue and sculptures of the four great ancient mothers. Darushan stands at an elevation of 216.6 meters, and it is said that the view from the top is also a great place to watch the sunrise, but to protect the mountain body and vegetation, visitors are prohibited from climbing to the top.
Within the scenic area, there is a temple called Hongxing Temple, which was originally built during the Northern and Southern Dynasties of the Northern Wei period. Although the temple is not large, the architecture inside is orderly and grand, making it a good place to worship and offer incense. The scenic area also features newly built structures such as the Sun and Moon Twin Towers, the Medicine Buddha Hall, and the Lingguang Pagoda. These three buildings are magnificent in appearance and house many Buddha statues, forming part of the resort’s Buddhist cultural theme. The opening hours are from 08:00 to 17:00 all year round.
