Mount Xitianmu is famous for its ‘towering canopies of ancient trees’. It has a world-rare community of Cryptomeria fortunei. And this Cryptomeria fortunei community mainly grows in the Dashu Wang Scenic Area. The Cryptomeria fortunei community here is like a green screen reaching to the sky and also like a series of green canopies. It is a cool summer resort. Among the Cryptomeria fortunei community, there are more than 500 trees over 500 years old, concentrated in the area from Wuliting to Kaishan Laodian. Naturally, the famous one is the ‘Dashu Wang’ named by Emperor Qianlong himself. It is over 2,000 years old and has a trunk diameter of more than 2 meters. Unfortunately, due to human destruction and environmental impacts, the ‘Dashu Wang’ died in the 1930s. However, although it has been dead for more than 70 years, it still stands firmly. A new green branch has parasitized on its withered trunk. And the No. 141 Cryptomeria fortunei on the upper right of the ‘Dashu Wang’ has been recognized by everyone as the new ‘Dashu Wang’ of Mount Xitianmu. Visiting the Dashu Wang Scenic Area is also very convenient. You can take the scenic area shuttle bus to the Longfengjian parking lot on the mountain, and then follow the wooden plank road and mountain road to visit. Along the way down, you can pass scenic spots such as Simianfeng, Upside-down Lotus, Four Generations Under One Roof, Dashu Wang, Lion’s Mouth, Kaishan Laodian, and Fuhu Waterfall. The peak of Mount Xitianmu – ‘Xianren Peak’ is also in the Dashu Wang Scenic Area. The peak altitude is 1506 meters. There is a stone pillar on the peak named Tianzhu Peak. There was originally a stone inscription of ‘Wonder of the World’ in the Qing Dynasty on the pillar. Due to the explosion when the meteorological station was built in 1955, only ‘Remarkable’ remains. When the weather is good, you can overlook the Qiantang River to the east and Huangshan Mountain to the west from Xianren Peak.
