Located 20 kilometers from Dongfang City, the Datian Slope Deer Nature Reserve spans an area of 2000 hectares and is home to over 400 graceful slope deer. These deer, similar in appearance to sika deer, are distinguished by their forward-curving antlers, making them a sight to behold.
Slope deer are known for their agility and jumping prowess, capable of leaping over ditches up to 5 meters wide when startled. They prefer to inhabit the shrub-covered hillsides, where their keen senses of sight, hearing, and smell come into play. Male deer call to attract females, and female deer call to their fawns, with their vocalizations carrying over a kilometer.
Visitors can ascend the observation tower within the reserve to witness the deer frolicking. Interestingly, slope deer are drawn to the color red, and thus, they often emerge in groups during sunrise and sunset. This is the best time to climb the tower for a chance to spot not only the deer but also other wild animals. The opening hours and business status are subject to the day’s operational conditions.
