The Dawenkou Site is located along the Dawen River, 30 kilometers south of Tai’an City. First discovered and excavated in 1959, it is a patrilineal clan site from the late Neolithic period, dating back 4,000 to 5,000 years. The artifacts unearthed from the ‘Dawenkou Culture’ include beautifully shaped pottery with hollow handles, bowl-shaped ding (ancient Chinese cauldrons), pierced dou (ancient Chinese plates), high-stemmed cups, painted pottery dou, as well as finely ground stone axes, stone锛 (stone adzes), stone shovels, stone chisels, and bone tools.

The discovery of Dawenkou Culture has traced the origins of Shandong’s Longshan Culture. In 1982, the Dawenkou Site was designated as a National Key Cultural Relic Protection Unit. The opening hours are subject to the actual daily opening status.
