Dayangshan and Xiaoyangshan face each other across the sea. It is 39.6 kilometers northeast from Caoyuan Town, the county seat, and 35 kilometers northwest from Luchaogang, Nanhui District, Shanghai. The island is propeller-shaped and runs from east to west. It is 4 kilometers long. The southern end is 1.3 kilometers wide, and the northern part is 200-300 meters wide. The land area is 4.19 square kilometers. The coastline is 16.7 kilometers long. The island is surrounded by mountains. The valley in the middle is relatively open. The highest peak has an altitude of 204 meters. The landscapes of Dayangshan are known for its strange rocks and cliff carvings. There is a gap cave formed by stacked granite, called Tiandong. One can reach the mountain top from above and enter the sea from below, which is very peculiar. Xiaomei Mountain has stone carvings such as ‘The sea is calm as waves’. There is also an ancient temple of the Queen of Heaven from the Qing Dynasty, which is a county-level cultural relic.
