De’anli, originally constructed in the 10th year of the Tongzhi period of the Qing Dynasty (1871 AD), is a traditional fortified village featuring the Chaoshan architectural style. With its deep alleys, black-tiled and white-walled buildings, it has withstood over a century of changes while retaining its authentic charm.
De’anli is primarily composed of three sections: the Old, Middle, and New Villages, each centered around a large ancestral hall, with other buildings arranged in a hierarchical manner, creating architectural layouts known as ‘Hundreds of Birds Paying Homage to the Phoenix’ and ‘Four Horses Pulling a Carriage’, which fully reflect the clan hierarchy of the Chaoshan region.

Upon entering the museum in the Old Village, one is greeted by the presentation of Chaoshan’s ‘Lotus’ culture. Here, visitors can admire various precious cultural relics such as porcelain, tea sets, and bridal sedan chairs, experiencing the traditional culture and folk customs of old Chaoshan. In De’anli’s art galleries and museums, one can enjoy classical music and calligraphy and painting art. Of course, don’t forget to savor the representative ‘Gongfu Tea’ of Chaoshan.
