Donghong Fort, also known as Dongfengshao Fort, is a fort at the eastern end of Liugong Island. It is equipped with two 24-centimeter and two 12-centimeter caliber flat-fire cannons, six 75-centimeter caliber field guns, and four rapid-fire cannons. The firepower can reach the eastern sea surface of Liugong Island and the north and south estuaries. It mainly blocks the south entrance together with Rijima Fort and the southern forts. In the Weihai Battle of the Sino-Japanese War of 1894-1895, this fort dealt a heavy blow to the Japanese army. Later, it was abandoned due to being destroyed by the Japanese artillery fire. Donghong Fort has a tunnel leading to the barracks. Artillerymen can directly reach the fort from the tunnel. The tunnel is of brick and stone structure with a vaulted dome. It is made of granite. It is 4 meters high and 32 meters wide. There are intact ventilation equipment in the tunnel. In front of the fort, there are 11 barracks built according to the terrain. Each barrack is about 22 square meters. It is located at the exit of the tunnel and connected to the tunnel. The barracks are interconnected for convenient access. The specific business hours and operating status are subject to the opening situation on that day.
