The East China Sea Guerrilla Corps was officially established in Dinghai Beichen Diaomen Village in April 1948, marking a new chapter in the vigorous people’s guerrilla warfare led by our party in the East China Sea region. On August 21, 1948, while the main force of the East China Sea Guerrilla Corps was advancing to the Tiantai Mountain base, they were besieged and attacked by more than 2000 troops of the army, navy, and air force on Liuheng Island, resulting in the heroic sacrifice of over 170 people.

The Dongzong Martyrs Memorial Park is located in the western part of Liuheng Town, covering an area of 60 acres. It was first constructed in 2003 and opened to the public on the eve of the National Day in 2003. The main structures of the park include a monument, a square, and a historical relics exhibition room, with a total construction investment of 2.8 million yuan. The Martyrs’ Monument stands at 18 meters tall and 5.6 meters wide, with the inscription ‘Martyrs’ Monument of the East China Sea Guerrilla Corps’ written by Xue Ju, the former secretary of Zhejiang Provincial Committee, on the front of the monument. The back of the monument bears an inscription erected by the Liuheng Town Government. The center of the park is the Memorial Square, which houses the historical relics exhibition room.
