The East China Sea Guerrilla Corps was declared established in Diaomen Village, Beichan, Dinghai in April 1948. Its establishment opened a new page for the vigorous people’s guerrilla war in the East China Sea area led by our Party.
On August 21, 1948, on the way to the Tiantai Mountain base area, the main force of the East China Sea Guerrilla Corps was surrounded and attacked by more than 2,000 land, sea and air forces on Liuheng Island. More than 170 people sacrificed heroically.
The Memorial Park of Martyrs of the East China Sea Guerrilla Corps is located in the west of Liuheng Town, covering an area of 60 mu. It was built in 2003 and opened on the eve of National Day in 2003. The main buildings of the entire cemetery include monuments, squares, historical relics exhibition rooms, etc. The total construction investment amounts to 2.8 million yuan.
The martyr monument is 18 meters high and 5.6 meters wide. On the front of the monument are engraved the words ‘Monument to Martyrs of the East China Sea Guerrilla Corps’ inscribed by Xue Ju, former secretary of the Zhejiang Provincial Party Committee. Behind the monument is the inscription erected by the Liuheng Town Government.
At the center of the cemetery is the memorial square, which contains a historical relics exhibition room.
