The Dongji Islands are located at the estuary of Taizhou Bay. The terrain is strategically important and surrounded by the sea. Que’er’ao Island, a subordinate island of the Dongji Islands, is about 3 kilometers north of Tian’ao Island. It is said that beans and wheat are planted on the island, attracting many sparrows, hence the name. In the Qing Dynasty, it was once named ‘Jinmen Island’. It has an area of 4.4 square kilometers. The higher peak is in the middle with an altitude of 188 meters. Tian’ao Island is 4 kilometers northwest of Dongji Island. It is named because there were once paddy fields on the island. There are many hills. It is the main producing area of laver in Linhai City and a fishing ground for grouper. Toumen Island is 5 kilometers southwest of Tian’ao Island. It is an important island of the Dongji Islands. It is named because it is located at the mouth of Taizhou Bay. It is also known as Taimen Island.
