Introduction: The Jiulong Eighteen Pools Natural Scenic Area is located in Shiyanjing Village, Taishitun Town, Miyun County. The original name of the scenic spot is Donglongtan. It is 50 kilometers away from Miyun County seat. In ancient times, it was listed as the top of the four strange pools in eastern Beijing.
The scenery in the scenic area is beautiful. There are numerous strange peaks, colorful forests, flowing springs and waterfalls. The mountains are high and the forests are dense, the peaks are strange and the rocks are strange. There are many springs and the pools and waterfalls are intertwined. There are more than forty large and small landscapes. It is known as six springs, nine waterfalls and eighteen pools. The terrain is precipitous, and the geological structure is complex. There are cliffs and karst caves everywhere.
At the same time, the animal and plant resources are rich, the forests are lush, and the birds are singing and the flowers are fragrant. Its geological structure is lava terrain, and there are a large number of caves distributed, including Gudong Xuanyang Cave, Chiquandong Cave, Xianyaodong Cave, Wohudong Cave, etc. There are three natural basins located on the top of high mountains, which is really rare. In the basin, peaks are formed by huge rocks and are divided into two from the middle. The walls are like cut by knives and axes, so it is named ‘Longpixia’. A beautiful peak is like a huge landscape painting and is also called ‘Cuiping Peak’.The caves scattered throughout the basin exude a chilling air at their entrances and are accompanied by a gloomy wind, deterring anyone from venturing inside. The area is home to several striking landscapes, including the Dragon King Ancient Temple, which dates back to the Jiaqing period, and a millennium-old cypress with a rich history. Visitors can also marvel at the divine dragon seemingly hanging upside down with a cascading waterfall and the golden lotus that emerges from the ground, enveloped in misty waters. The southern pillar, which soars into the clouds, and the lifelike sleeping orangutan rock are other notable features.
This location is an ideal spot for vacations, leisure, exploration, and sketching. It boasts a plethora of natural delights such as hazelnuts, wild jujubes, hickory nuts, and mushrooms, along with artificially planted fruits like pears, apples, hawthorns, and chestnuts. Every autumn, fruit picking activities are organized, providing a full experience for visitors.
The site is open for visitors from 9:00 to 18:00 all year round.
