Upon entering Dongnong Village, villagers often inquire whether you are heading to the old village or the new village when asked for directions. For them, ‘old village’ and ‘new village’ are unique terms representing two distinct parts of Dongnong Village. The old village is an ancient fortress built against the mountain, with houses featuring tile roofs and earthen walls, scattered on the hillside, and has a history of over a hundred years.
Walking on the stone steps, one can feel the simplicity and natural atmosphere; 1.4 kilometers away from the old village at the foot of the mountain, the new village, surrounded by spacious cement roads and neatly arranged three-story villas, represents Dongnong’s new village. The ancient fortress encapsulates the past life of the She people, while the new village interprets the achievements of new rural construction. For a long time, Dongnong Village has well inherited the intangible cultural heritage of the She ancestors, such as ribbons, sacrifices, marriage customs, mountain songs, and the She language, highlighting the charm of She culture. In 2011, the ancient fortress of Dongnong Village was also listed as one of the villages in Jingning to build ‘Beautiful Countryside · Charming She Village’. Nowadays, the reputation of the ancient fortress is growing, and many tourists come to experience She culture. The village is open all year round and accessible 24/7.Dongnong Village
