Over 900 years ago, Su Dongpo, exiled to Huizhou in the south, completed the construction of his new residence on Baihe Ridge, intending it to be his final resting place. Later, Su Dongpo was further exiled to Hainan. After several years, his former residence on Baihe Ridge became known as the Dongpo Ancestral Hall. During the Anti-Japanese War, the site was destroyed by artillery fire. Subsequently, the site of the Dongpo Ancestral Hall served as the location for the Joseph Hospital, Baiyun Hospital, and Huizhou Health School. The Dongpo Ancestral Hall is situated at Baihe Ridge, Qiaodong Street Office, Huizhou City. The site of the Dongpo Ancestral Hall, located at the heart of the Dongpo Ancestral Hall scenic area, is the only residence in China that can be definitively traced back to Su Dongpo’s personal establishment. In ancient times, important officials of Huizhou Prefecture and Guishan County were required to pay homage to the Dongpo Ancestral Hall upon taking office. The hall is open all year round from Tuesday to Sunday, 09:00 to 17:00.
