Dongshan Ridge is located on the outskirts of Wanning City, with an elevation of 184 meters. Although the mountain is not particularly tall, the scenery is quite unique. It features strange caves and secluded valleys, cliff inscriptions, and is a long-standing Buddhist sacred site in Hainan, earning the reputation of ‘The First Mountain of Hainan’. From the valleys to the ridges of Dongshan Ridge, there are variously shaped cliffs and rocks of all sizes, some resembling ships and others eagles, all lifelike.

The cliffs also bear numerous cliff inscriptions left by ancient visitors, some dating back to the Jin Dynasty. The Buddhist culture of Dongshan Ridge has a long history, with temples and nunneries built during the Tang and Song dynasties. Among them, Chaoyin Temple is the most famous, built in memory of the Southern Song Dynasty’s anti-Jin hero Li Gang, attracting a constant stream of visitors throughout the year with thriving incense.

Visitors can take a cable car to the mountain, first stopping at the halfway point to admire the cliff inscriptions, and there are leisure facilities such as tea rooms. Dongshan lamb is a famous local specialty here, which can also be tasted. Then, visitors can continue to take the cable car to the summit, from where they can overlook the scenery. The entire area is open all year round from 07:30 to 17:00.

Additional information: The specific information should be based on the day’s disclosure by the scenic area, and the above information is for reference only. Essential tips: 1. There is a temple on the mountain, which should be entered with caution. Avoid fortune-telling and listening to sermons, as the ‘merit’ you have to donate can be a large sum. Remember, the value of incense is in the sincerity of the heart! 2.

The ‘Three Wonders of Dongshan Ridge’: Longquan Spring, Partridge Tea, and Dongshan Lamb. Longquan Spring is clear and sweet; Partridge Tea has always been known as ‘Ganoderma lucidum’; Dongshan Lamb has black wool and, due to long-term consumption of rare plants such as Partridge Tea, the meat is devoid of any fishy smell and is delicious and palatable. 3. Visitors can take the cable car to the mountain top and then walk down from the top.
