Dongtianmu Mountain offers a distinct landscape compared to Xitianmu Mountain, with fewer tourists and a serene atmosphere provided by towering ancient trees, babbling brooks, magnificent waterfalls, and ancient temples on the mountain. The scenic area is roughly divided into three sections: Dongpu Grand Canyon, Linhai Grand Canyon (Xipu Grand Canyon), and Zhaoming Great Zen Temple, all interconnected by roads.
Additionally, there is the undeveloped Tianmu Great Immortal Peak, which should not be entered rashly. The scenic area has two gates, east and west, with visitors typically entering from the west gate for easier access to various attractions. If time is limited, one can take the cable car up the mountain to view the essence of Xipu and return, taking approximately 2 hours. With 4 hours, it is possible to visit the entire scenic area. After entering the scenic area, one must take the scenic transportation to the mountain climbing entrance. From the west gate, visitors can take a vehicle to Wuli Pavilion and then switch to the cable car (upward 40 yuan, downward 30 yuan) to ascend the mountain. Walking along the ancient tree-enclosed Zen forest path leads to Zhaoming Great Zen Temple, an important Pure Land Buddhism site with a history of over a thousand years, despite its newly constructed buildings. The temple is quiet, suitable for offering incense and praying for blessings. It is also a Buddhist academy, often visited by believers studying Buddhism.
Exiting Zhaoming Great Zen Temple, one can walk through the Wansong Forest to the Red Maple Pavilion and then descend back to the west gate. If continuing eastward, a 20-minute walk leads to the nearly hundred-meter drop of Dongpu, a waterfall landscape worth seeing in the scenic area. There is a footpath following the stream, with accompanying brooks and numerous waterfalls and ponds along the way, taking about 50 minutes to traverse.
