Dongyang is home to three clusters of ancient residences: Xin Cuo Xia, Xi Cun, and Men Lou Wai. The progenitor of the Lin family in Dongyang, Lin Jian, originally from Putian, Fujian, moved to Xiaocun Dong’ao (Xin Lou) in Tai Shun to escape turmoil during the Tang Dynasty’s Tong Guang three years (925). Later, in the second year of Song Dynasty’s Jian Long (961), he relocated to the upper section of Sui Xi (Hou Chi). When Lin Jian migrated from Putian to Xiaocun Dong’ao, he had six sons, and except for the sixth son who moved to Sui Xi with his father, the others remained in Dongyang. The three clusters of ancient residences in Dongyang today are historical and cultural heritages left by the descendants of Lin Jian for future generations.
