The Dongziyuan scenic area is located in the southeast of Dezhou urban area. It is built to commemorate Dong Zhongshu, a great Confucian scholar in the Western Han Dynasty. Taking the Shawang River water system as the vein, there are many off-white-toned antique buildings in the scenic area. There are scenic spots such as Dongzi Reading Platform, China Dezhou Confucian Culture Exhibition Hall, ‘Three Strategies to Consolidate the Foundation’ water archway, Dongzi Cultural Street, Chunhui Garden and so on.
The Dongzi Reading Platform is the main scenery in the scenic area. Dong Zhongshu studied Confucianism in Dezhou for 13 years in his youth. In history, there was a Dongzi Reading Platform, which was later destroyed in the war. The rebuilt Dongzi Reading Platform is 24.8 meters high and consists of Dongzi Reading Hall, Dongzi Temple and related supporting projects. A bronze statue of Dong Zhongshu, a great Confucian scholar in the Han Dynasty, stands in front of the reading platform. The entire scenic area takes Confucian culture as the theme and vigorously promotes Confucian ideology and culture. At the same time, by publicizing the spirit of Dongzi’s reading scriptures and ‘not peeping into the garden for three years’, young people are encouraged to work hard and become pillars of ‘virtuous and upright’ talents. There are also landscapes such as stone boats, mid-lake pavilions, five-curved bridges, Zhaozhou Bridge, Optimus Prime fountains, and yin-yang fish squares in the scenic area.
