The Duanmen Gate Tower is located between Tian’anmen and the Meridian Gate of the Forbidden City. It was built in 1420 (the 18th year of Yongle in the Ming Dynasty). It is one of the main gates of the Forbidden City in the Ming Dynasty and also the main gate of the imperial city in the Qing Dynasty. The entire building structure and style are the same as those of Tian’anmen. In the Ming and Qing dynasties, it was mainly a place to store imperial ceremonial supplies.
