The Duobao Colored Glazed Pagoda was originally named Duobao Buddha Pagoda, also known as Duobao Tower. It is located in the Summer Palace in Beijing. This pagoda is small and exquisite. Among many pagoda-style buildings, it can be regarded as a miniature figure. In front of the ancient pagoda, there is a stone tablet with the ‘Imperial Ode to the Duobao Buddha Pagoda on Longevity Hill’ personally inscribed by Emperor Qianlong.
The ancient pagoda is located on the ruins of Huachengge in the back mountain area. It was built in 1754, the nineteenth year of Emperor Qianlong’s reign. It was built by Emperor Qianlong to celebrate the sixtieth birthday of the Empress Dowager. The tower faces north and sits south. It has eight sides and seven levels, with a height of about 17.6 meters. It has an octagonal spire with seven double eaves. It has a white marble base. The tower body is made of colored glazed bricks with 596 relief Buddha statues. At the bottom of the tower, there are exquisite patterns carved on the pedestal, which are inlaid with yellow, green, cyan, blue, and purple glazed bricks. There is a throne on the top of the tower, and a circle of copper bells hangs around it. Above it is the gilded top of the brake made of copper, which is dazzling, colorful, and extremely gorgeous. This tower has a very unique shape. The first, third, and fifth floors are relatively tall pavilion-style, while the second, fourth, sixth, and seventh floors of the tower body are relatively small, like a double-eaved pavilion. In 1860, during the ‘Anglo-French Allied Forces’, Huachengge was destroyed. Since the colored glazed pagoda is of brick and stone structure, it has been completely preserved to this day. Opening hours: open all year round and all day.Duobao Colored Glazed Pagoda
