In Xitang, a genuine love story has been passed down through generations. During the late Qing Dynasty, the fifth daughter of the Yang family, a landlord in Tangdong Village, fell in love with their worker, Xu A Tian. Their love was opposed by her half-brother, leading to their tragic deaths. Later, her love story was turned into a field song, which has been sung here for over a hundred years. The musical ‘Wu Gu Niang’, adapted from Jiashan field songs, won the Wenhua Grand Prize at the 7th China Art Festival. The Duwa Pavilion was specially crafted by Xu A Tian during his time as a kiln worker to express his love for the fifth daughter, using a single tile to build a pavilion. Inside the pavilion hangs a bell, engraved with the scene of their rendezvous and the words of love at first sight. It is open all year round and accessible 24/7, with specific business hours subject to daily conditions.
