The legend of the Eight Immortals crossing the sea is a well-known story. The Eight Immortals Reef in the Penglai Pavilion scenic area contains a small story about the Eight Immortals. Legend has it that the Eight Immortals drank and had fun on the Penglai Pavilion. After getting drunk, each held a precious utensil and walked into the sea, showing their respective magical powers in the wind and waves. Soon they drifted to the distant place where the sea and the sky meet. However, their physical bodies transformed into eight reefs. This reef has been washed by the waves and appears in a vicissitudes look. But upon careful identification, Zhang Guolao’s donkey, Tieguai Li’s gourd, and the postures of the eight immortals lying down, looking up, sitting or standing can still be vaguely seen.
