The exhibition ‘Revelation and Order’ presents the artistic creations of six artists, attempting to respond to how images or forms establish a dynamic order between the new and the old. In a consumer society, the traditional meanings of totems and forms have undergone a transformation. They are appropriated, commodified, and recontextualized, becoming a part of contemporary visual language. The process of modernization has expanded the functions of these symbols, making them tools for identity construction. Totems and forms are also deeply intertwined with the politics of identity and space. They are visual symbols of power, resistance, and a sense of belonging, reflecting the complex dynamics of identity politics and geopolitics. The works in the exhibition take totems or, in a broad sense, diagrams as clues. They use ethnic minority patterns to replace language; use animal-like, commodified sculptural forms to discuss dispersion and geopolitics; use the painting language of overlapping murals, real images, and materiality to understand the past and the present; use performative scenes based on life that are remade and fictionalized to temporarily set aside desires. The exhibition explores how totems and forms are reimagined in this social landscape and examines their roles as agents of desire, producers, and tools for cultural exchange. When these images are placed in discussions of territory, dispersion, and spatial politics, it challenges traditional narrative and aesthetic paradigms and reconfigures our understanding of place and landscape. This transformation from sacred objects and collective memories to marketable diagrams highlights the dynamic interaction between cultural archives and contemporary consumerist desires.
