The Eying Temple is located on the north bank of Baotu Spring and to the north of Luoyuan Hall. It was built to worship the two wives of Shun, Ehuang and Nüying. It is said that Ehuang and Nüying are the daughters of Emperor Yao. The two of them married Shun at the same time. The elder sister became the queen and the younger sister became the imperial concubine. The three had a very good relationship. They once helped Shun successfully ascend to the throne. Afterwards, they encouraged Shun to repay kindness with virtue and be tolerant and kind to those deadly enemies. Their virtues were thus recorded and widely praised by the people. Later, when Shun died on his southern inspection tour, Ehuang and Nüying heard the news and followed to search. Along the way, they cried bitterly. Their tears fell on the bamboos in the mountains and formed the poignant and moving ‘Xiangfei mottled bamboo’. Later, the two of them jumped into the Xiang River and died for their great husband. They were model wives who were loyal to their husbands from beginning to end. Heaven pitied their deep love and turned their souls into narcissus by the river. The two also became the flower gods of narcissus in the twelfth lunar month. Opening hours: Open all year round from 07:00 to 18:00.
