Fan Tian Temple is located on Dalun Mountain, just 1 kilometer away from Tong’an County. Established during the Kaihuang era of the Sui Dynasty, it was originally named Xingjiao Temple and consisted of 72 hermitages. In the second year of the Xingning era of the Song Dynasty (1069 AD), when Zhu Xi served as the chief clerk of Tong’an, he frequently visited Fan Tian Temple, leaving numerous cliff inscriptions. The Yangzhi Pavilion built by Wang Jing in the Ming Dynasty and the Shi Zhan Pavilion built by Liu Shang are significant historical structures commemorating the renowned scholar Zhu Xi.
During his tenure as the chief clerk in Tong’an, Zhu Xi often visited Fan Tian Temple, leaving behind several cliff inscriptions. The Yangzhi Pavilion, Shi Zhan Pavilion, and the academy advocated by Lin Xiyuan are all important historical buildings that honor the famous scholar Zhu Xi. Fan Tian Temple is one of the earlier Buddhist temples in Fujian Province. The temple complex includes main structures such as the Mahavira Hall and the Scripture Repository, with a grand scale. The buildings behind the temple are surrounded by a tranquil bamboo forest, creating a serene and elegant environment.
