Fan Zi Lou – A Blend of Chinese and Western Architecture in Quanzhou, Minnan

Fan Zi Lou, also known as Fan Ke Lou, is a unique blend of Chinese and Western architectural styles found in Minnan, particularly in Quanzhou. This type of building is referred to as ‘Western-style houses’ in the Minnan region. Predominantly constructed during the Republic of China era, Fan Zi Lou were built by overseas Chinese returned from Southeast Asia. The architectural style is a harmonious fusion of Eastern and Western elements, distinctly different from the traditional Minnan ancient dwellings. Additionally, the building materials were often directly transported from Southeast Asia, hence the name Fan Zi Lou.
