Nan Songyan, a provincial-level scenic spot in Fangshan, is the remaining ridge of Bei Yandang and serves as the boundary mountain between Taizhou and Wenzhou cities. It is based on the Jurassic ancient volcanic crater and volcanic landform, integrating natural landscapes such as steep cliffs, extraordinary peaks, deep valleys, waterfalls, streams, and pastoral scenery, along with a long history of religious activities. The scenic area is composed of three major scenic spots: Fangshan, Nan Songyan, and Shifeng.
Fangshan Scenic Area: Surrounded by towering cliffs within a 5-kilometer radius, it is majestic and challenging to climb. From a distance, the mountain appears grand and hidden, resembling a table or a platform, hence the name Fangshan. The summit is open and vast, with approximately 47 hectares of flat land, akin to a plain in the sky, a celestial platform beyond the world. The diverse and dynamic geological features of Fangshan, with its perilous cliffs and strange rocks, offer high recreational value for exploration, discovery, and sightseeing. Nan Songyan Scenic Area: The crisscrossing geological faults and steep terrain, along with short rivers, have given birth to a majestic and rich cliff and valley landscape. The peaks stand out, with cliff walls ranging from 60 to 100 meters in height, appearing as platforms when viewed from above and as peaks when looked up at. The scenic area is evergreen throughout the seasons, hazy and misty, especially in the Maple Bay, where the hills are covered with red leaves and osmanthus fragrance fills the air during the autumn. Songyan Lecture Temple in Nan Songyan is a well-known site of the Linji sect in Zhejiang, hidden deep in the mountains and valleys, nestled among lush forests and bamboos, with a history of eminent monks leaving behind many ancient and significant traces. Shifeng Scenic Area: Known for its grandeur and peculiarity. Notable features include Lion Peak, East Facing Cave, Fairy Screen, Fireworks Cave, and Turtle Carrying a Rock. The main attraction, Lion Head Peak, stands 309 meters tall with a majestic mountain range, and the scenic area boasts extraordinary cliffs. The plank roads between the scenic spots are built against cliffs and overlook deep valleys, offering excellent viewing and exploratory experiences. The cave landscapes are unique, with the main Fireworks Cave spanning over 200 square meters, resembling a grand hall that leaves visitors in awe.
