Fanpo Building is one of the top ten mansions on Gulangyu Island. It is a provincial-level cultural relic protection unit and a key scenic building, also known as the famous “Filial Son Building”.
It was built by the Philippine tobacco tycoon for his mother. The building features bright colors and unique shapes. Some Rococo characteristics are harmoniously and skillfully combined with traditional Chinese craftsmanship, which is rare among the villa groups on Gulangyu Island.

Graceful and still as charming as ever, it has been repeatedly selected by film directors. Many movies such as “Liao Zhongkai”, “Autumn in Spring”, and “People of Tulou” have been filmed here.

Now it is open to the public as an intangible cultural heritage exhibition hall. Regular explanations are provided on the architectural features of Fanpo Building, various intangible cultural heritage art treasures collected in the museum, the history of the tobacco tycoon’s rise to wealth, and the anecdote of distributing silver dollars at the entrance to show filial piety to his mother.

Opening hours: It is open from 09:30 – 18:00 throughout the year; during the National Day holiday, it is open from 09:00 – 20:00.
