Fanyin Cave is located on the eastern side of Putuo Mountain, and among the many caves on Putuo Mountain, Fanyin Cave stands out for its majestic presence. Like Chaoyin Cave, which is opposite the Kongbu Qi Guanyin Temple, it is a place on the island suitable for listening to the sound of the sea tide. In addition to Fanyin Cave, the scenic area includes attractions such as Shancai Cave and Ancient Buddha Cave. Compared to other scenic spots on Putuo Mountain, Fanyin Cave is a relatively quiet place. Although the incense is not as prosperous, the view of the sea and the sound of the tide give a sense of openness and tranquility characteristic of a Buddhist site. Above Fanyin Cave, there is a pavilion named Zhansheng Pavilion, which offers a view of the sea to the front and a view of the cave to the back, making it an excellent spot for appreciating the scenery of Fanyin Cave. Inside the cave, the depth is profound, and under the influence of sunlight and sea tide, the rocks within the cave display various unpredictable shapes. The sound of the tide crashing against the cliffs is like the roar of dragons and tigers. One of the twelve famous scenes of Putuo Mountain, ‘Heaven’s Gate Pure Chan’, refers to the magnificent scenery of Fanyin Cave. Exiting Fanyin Cave and following the path will lead to Shancai Cave. Shancai Cave is naturally formed by a few large rocks, creating a small cave with a boulder blocking the entrance. It is said to be the place where the Shancai Boy visited the Bodhisattva and stayed. Many tourists take a stack of hundred-yuan bills and rub them from right to left over the rocks at the cave entrance, believing it will bring wealth to their homes. The opening hours are from 6:00 to 18:00 all year round.
