Feilong Valley, nestled in Huangsongyu Township of Pinggu District, Beijing, lies in close proximity to the Huangsongyu Reservoir. This majestic canyon extends 8 kilometers from north to south, with towering cliffs framing its meandering and spiraling path. When viewed from a lofty vantage point, the valley’s shape resembles a colossal dragon reclining among verdant mountains, a feature that has earned it the name Feilong Valley.
Spanning a width of 20 meters, the valley is a tapestry of grotesque rocks, cascading springs, and waterfalls, with mist swirling around to create an enchanting scene. Summer in Feilong Valley is characterized by its lush greenery, layer upon layer of verdant mountains, and the melodic sounds of spring water and gentle streams, all contributing to its reputation as the ‘Zhangjiajie of Northern China’. In the winter months, visitors can witness the awe-inspiring ice waterfalls that tower several meters high.
A winding asphalt road snakes its way up the valley, accompanied by a stream that meanders alongside, with the ever-changing mountain scenery providing a backdrop. The hillsides are adorned with chestnut and walnut trees, interspersed with the occasional hawthorn tree. To the east of the road, three distinctive solitary peaks stand tall: ‘Eagle Peak’, ‘Spirit Dolphin Peak’, and ‘Plain Silk Peak’, each featuring steep cliffs and unique scenic views.
Within the scenic area, one can find the Chinese Emperors Palace, a hexagonal ancient-style building with upturned eaves. Inside, the palace houses statues of cultural ancestors such as Nuwa and Fuxi, as well as 419 emperors from 23 dynasties up to the end of the Qing Dynasty, a collection that is hailed as ‘a unique treasure of China’.
