Located in the southeastern part of Haojiang Majiao Street, Fenggang Ancient Village in Haojiang District, Shantou City, was established in 1319 AD. The existing ancient buildings are mainly from the late Qing Dynasty and are well preserved. The village covers an area of approximately 4 square kilometers and has a population of about 7000 residents. In recent years, Majiao Street has taken a series of measures to protect Fenggang Ancient Village, including strengthening publicity and promotion, improving protection mechanisms, and increasing financial investment. In 2010, the ‘Fenggang Pearl Lady Temple Fair’ was listed as a non-material cultural heritage of Shantou City. In January 2013, Fenggang Ancient Village was recognized as an ancient village in Guangdong Province. In January 2014, it was officially named ‘Chinese Ancient Village’ by the Chinese Folk Artists Association. Fenggang Village has a long history, rich ancient architectural heritage, and well-preserved ancient residences, making it a unique coastal ancient fishing village in Eastern Guangdong. The village is built according to the traditional Chaozhou residential architectural style, nestled against Fenggang Mountain, with a well-arranged layout, simple and rustic, reflecting a strong sense of clan identity. After hundreds of years of development and accumulation, Fenggang Village has a tradition of valuing culture and education, with a profound folk cultural heritage. The Fenggang Pearl Lady Temple Fair and dragon boat races are well-known in the Chaozhou region. When visiting Fenggang Village, in addition to enjoying the ebb and flow of the tides and listening to the waves crashing on the shore, the unique scenery of the scattered grotesque rocks and ancient banyan trees scattered throughout the ancient village should not be missed. ‘Fenggang has many strange rocks’, such as the Mother’s Seal Rock, Turtle and Crab Rock, Snake Head Rock, and Cannon Stone, are not only peculiar in shape but also endowed with many mythological legends. Open all year round, accessible 24/7.
