The ‘Fengyan Ancient Temple’ was built during the Dade period at the beginning of the Yuan Dynasty. It was founded by Wen Yinglin, a grandson of Wen Tianxiang. It has a history of more than 600 years. There have been six times when renovations were advocated by the government and the people. The temple was at its peak in the middle of the Ming Dynasty. Zheng Wenbing, a successful candidate in the highest imperial examinations from Xin’an County at that time, composed a poem about touring Phoenix Rock in autumn, which was widely spread. According to legend, Wen Yinglin saw Guanyin’s inscription here and was inspired by Guanyin’s托梦 to build this temple at night. Therefore, since its establishment, the temple has enshrined Guanyin Bodhisattva. After liberation, the ancient temple was neglected for more than 30 years. Now it has been completely renovated. The walls are made of long stones, and the tiles are glazed and green. It is simple, elegant, and has a wide area. In addition to enshrining statues, there is a Wen Tianxiang Memorial Hall in the front seat and a Yinglin Pavilion in the middle seat to commemorate the predecessors of the Wen family.
