From 1931 to 1933, Shen Congwen lived here while teaching at the Department of Chinese Literature of Qingdao University. In 1932, Ba Jin also stayed at Shen Congwen’s residence when he came to Qingdao. Shen Congwen successively created famous works such as Autobiography of Congwen, Notes on Ding Ling, Moonlit Scenery, and Eight Steeds here. Border Town was also conceived during this period.
