Former Victoria Prison Site

Former Victoria Prison is located on the eastern section of Hollywood Road in Central, Hong Kong Island, on the hillside of Upper Albert Road. It is one of the old Central Police Station buildings and is one of the statutory monuments in Hong Kong. Before its decommissioning in 2006, Victoria Prison was the central hub of Hong Kong’s prison system, witnessing the history of Hong Kong’s opening, World War II, Hong Kong as a port of refuge for boat people, and the historical development process of Hong Kong’s correctional system.
Victoria Prison comprises ten buildings, including the Warden’s Building, A Storehouse, B Storehouse, C Storehouse, D Storehouse, E Storehouse, Workshop and Laundry, Office Building, and Bauhinia Building. After the prison ceased operations in 2006, it was temporarily open for visits on January 6, 7, 13, 14, 20, and 21, 2007. It is open to the public from 11:00 to 19:00 all year round, with the specific operating status subject to the daily opening conditions.
