Performance: The large-scale ethnic dance drama ‘Yingge’ is produced by the Propaganda Department of the CPC Guangzhou Municipal Committee, the Guangzhou Municipal Bureau of Culture, Radio, Television and Tourism, and the Guangzhou Cultural Development Group Co., Ltd., and created and performed by the Guangzhou Song and Dance Theatre. Taking the excellent traditional intangible cultural heritage of China as the carrier, ‘Yingge’ is depicted as a power that transcends time and space, achieving a journey of inner exploration and self-growth for the young people in the play. It also shows the inheritance of culture, the remembrance of history, and the pursuit of the future by Chinese people.

In ‘Yingge’, ‘Yingge’, as the ‘Chinese war dance’, runs through the whole play, carrying the aspiration of thousands of Chinese people to go forward for the country even if there are thousands of people blocking the way, and entrusting the unyielding national spirit that has been passed down for thousands of years.

During the creation and rehearsal period of the large-scale ethnic dance drama ‘Yingge’, it visited towns and villages in Chaoshan. Chen Laifa, the national intangible cultural heritage representative inheritor of Puning Yingge dance, Lin Bingguang, the national intangible cultural heritage representative inheritor of Jiazi Yingge dance, and Fenggang Yingge team of Chaoyang Yingge dance were invited to conduct systematic training for the actors. The play is carefully created by a domestic first-class creative team. Shi Qianjin serves as the artistic director, Zhang Yi as the producer, Qian Xin and Wang Sisi as the chief choreographers, Luo Zhou as the playwright, and gathers industry big shots such as Xin Zhu, Liu Kedong, Ren Dongsheng, Yang Donglin, Liu Shuangchen, and Wang Yan to join strongly. Wu Miao and Dong Wenjie serve as executive choreographers.

Synopsis: In the early 1940s, a father from Chaoshan left his hometown and went to Nanyang and never returned.
A mother endures hardships to raise her son, who one day stumbles upon a letter from his father sent from abroad long ago and a Yingge hammer. Through a vision, he witnesses his father’s untold story of fighting against enemies and comes to understand his father’s great virtues and the spirit of Yingge. In the end, the son brings his father’s letter back to the present, alleviating the mother’s endless longing for her husband.
