Foyun Mountain is located in Shuangxi Village, Dongbei Suxi Town, with Shuangxi Village as the center. To the north, there are Furong Mountain and Jinzhu Ping, to the east Shiwu Rock, to the south Dapeng Rock and Lion Rock, and to the west lies the lower Qiaoxi Reservoir. Qinglong Stream and Huanglong Stream flow slowly from east to west, merging at Shuangxi Village and flowing westward into Qiaoxi Reservoir, forming a ten-mile long river. On both banks, there are steep peaks and cliffs, bamboo sea waves, and towering ancient trees, creating a series of beautiful natural scenery pictures.
Starting from the city, driving north, one can see Qiaoxi Reservoir, Jialongkou, ‘Monk Carrying a Nun’, ‘Ten-mile Long River’, Screen Stone, and ‘Two Buddhas Reflecting’. Behind Shuangxi Village, Dapeng Rock is part of the ‘Golden Armchair’ scenic complex, also known as the Fo Yun Fairyland. It is over 700 meters above sea level, with peculiar rocks resembling an armchair, characterized by ‘spring waterfalls, summer breezes, autumn mists, and winter icicles’. A cliff tens of meters high, with grotesque rocks spanning about a kilometer. Adjacent are Moon Bay, Moon Tree (an ancient cypress resembling the osmanthus in the moon), stone bells and stalagmites, and the skyward beauty, as well as natural Buddha statues, with Buddhas within Buddhas, vividly resembling celestial beings. Xianying Cave, located at the mouth of the Lion Dragon in Maozhu Wu, has a cave entrance resembling a lion’s mouth. Inside the cave, ‘Xianying Mansion’, originally built in 1448, was renovated in 1994. There are 1857 stone steps leading to Xianying Cave, with dozens of scenic spots along the way such as Xianling Pagoda, Lion Face Rock, and Lion Rock. One kilometer north of Shuangxi, in Maocao Wu, there is a huge rock resembling a jade rabbit or a flat fish, which is said to have been named ‘Jade Rabbit’ by Sun Quan. Next to it are ‘Azure Dragon’ and Qinglong Pool, known as the Jade Rabbit Playing with the Dragon. The sunset at Qinglong Pool is a unique scenery. There are also ‘Fierce Tiger Descending the Mountain’, ‘Mandarin Ducks Playing with Turtle’, natural bonsai-style guest-welcoming pine trees, and cliffs on both sides, with unique scenery. Further ahead, the thousand-acre bamboo forest of Li Xigang unfolds before you. Here, there is a thousand-year-old black branch tree, hollow inside but with thick bark and lush branches and leaves. It is strange to see several strong green bamboos growing in the embrace of the black branch tree. Foyun Mountain Scenic Area is one of the sources of the Puyang River. Due to its short course and large drop, coupled with the undulating mountains on both banks, the water is swift and there are many waterfalls. These streams either swirl in deep mountains and dense forests or fall from cliffs and broken walls, with large stones piled up in the stream, vines entwining trees, and birds singing with the fragrance of flowers, full of the roughness and mystery of nature.
