The Fujian Provincial Art Museum is a public welfare social and cultural institution directly under the leadership of the Fujian Provincial Department of Culture. It has the functions of collecting, preserving, and exhibiting fine art pieces; organizing promotional exhibitions of art works; and engaging in relevant academic research and exchanges. It is a modern art museum with a certain influence both inside and outside the province.
In July 2003, the new building of the Fujian Provincial Art Museum was completed, located at the beautiful intersection of West Lake and Zuohai, surrounded by green trees and clear waters. It is a perfect fusion of modern architecture and aesthetics, a garden-style art palace. The newly equipped advanced central air conditioning, constant temperature and humidity, fire protection and security systems, and automated management facilities have comprehensively enhanced the technological content and safety coefficient of the building. The museum now offers an exhibition area of 1200 square meters. Over the past 30 years since its establishment, it has held nearly a thousand exhibitions, received more than six million visitors, and displayed more than fifty thousand pieces of work. Over the past thirty years, through various means such as thematic collection, acceptance of donations, allocation from higher authorities, renting with paintings, and special fund collection, the museum has collected more than three thousand pieces of oil paintings, traditional Chinese paintings, lacquer paintings, prints, peasant paintings, and calligraphy, including representative works and award-winning pieces from hundreds of painters such as Xu Beihong, Lu Yanshao, Lin Sanshi, Ya Ming, Li Jianchen, Chen Zifen, Song Xingyu, Li Shuqing, Gu Yichen, Li Geng, Li Xia, Luo Xiaofan, Qiao Shiguang, Wang Heju, Zheng Yikun, Wu Chuan, and Wu Jiaxian. Opening hours are as follows: Closed all day on Mondays; 09:00-18:00 from Tuesdays to Fridays; 09:00-20:00 on other days.
